ABOUT

Name and Mission

The name Tai Zhan came from my grandparent's butcher shop they had standing for 50+ years on a corner street in Cheung Shan Wan, Hong Kong.

My intention of carrying on this name is to honor my grandparents and continue on the spirit of Tai Zhan.

In Hong Kong, Tai Zhan was a neighborhood shop built around community and provided quality, small batched, hand crafted food.

The spirit of the shop was made up of the people that ran it with their spirit woven into the shop. This is the mission of Tai Zhan | plant based bakery. There's no butchering here, but the mission is the same to provide quality, artisan, hand crafted food with family values.

Journey and Inspiration

Tai Zhan started with our first bake sale in winter of 2018.

The Paradise fire had just happened which devastated many including our grandparents. We were thinking of ways to contribute funds for the families who lost their homes and decided to put on a bake sale at Vegan Republic in Berkeley. From the great support we received, we continued to bake and pop up whenever we can going from farmer markets to local eateries over the past years. We have now found a location to call home in Saratoga, CA. Opening in Fall 2023.

My grandparents butcher shop was a family run operation and it is the same with us. Our team consists of two, me and my partner. In addition, we have two little ones that you will most likely see eating buns or running around.

The inspiration behind our baking comes from family and childhood memories.

When creating the menu, we think about what we were eager to eat as kids and what flavors brought the most joy to us. To maintain quality, we make our fillings and plant based butter from scratch using organic ingredients whenever possible. Our croissants and eggless tarts are hand laminated and all our treats are made in small batches.

Every bake we do, we go into it with the mindset that we will put our best effort forward, learn from past bakes, and thrive for improvement. Our goal is simply to create more positive moments in the day through tasty treats. We hope to bring a sense of joy and happiness to you through our baked creations. Thank you for reading our story and we hope to bake for you soon!

With Gratitude,
Wendy + Keith.
